If you are suffering from a bed bugs infestation, then you may decide to treat the problem using an ‘off the shelf’ DIY bed bugs spray.
There are many different types of spray that are available, and you will need to make sure that the product will meet your needs. Some sprays may only be suitable for use on hard areas, and cannot be used on things such as your mattress.
The bed bugs spray will probably contain bed bug insecticides, and these days most of them are environmentally friendly. Many of the products are odour free, and some are water based. There are sprays that are said to contain natural ingredients, and no chemicals or pesticides.
The bed bugs spray may state that it is suitable for hard surfaces, cracks and crevices, or for use on all surfaces.
The bed bugs spray can be used to kill both the eggs and the adult bed bugs, so make sure that you purchase sufficient quantities to do the job.
Before you start to use a bed bugs spray there are some things that you will need to do in preperation.
Throw away any clutter: This will avoid wasting the spray unnecessarily, and will also allow you to see areas more clearly.
Empty out the contents from drawers, closets, cupboards, and wardrobes. The bed bugs may have laid their eggs there. Wash all the contents using water that is as hot as possible.
Fill up any unwanted holes and gaps in walls, floors, and skirting boards, as this is a favourite hiding place for the parasites.
Vacuum thoroughly, and wash all hard surfaces, including inside wardrobes and drawers. Make sure you seal the vacuum bag before you dispose of it.
If you use a bagless vacuum then empty the contents into a bag, seal, and dispose of in the outdoor trash. Wash out the container thoroughly when you have finished.
A bed bugs infestation can often be found inside a torn or damaged mattress. If this is the case and you can’t afford to replace the mattress, then make sure the damaged areas are repaired as soon as the mattress is treated. It may also be wise to use an allergy mattress cover after the treatment has been completed.
Remember to wash toys, ornaments, etc. In fact be as thorough in your cleaning as possible, as this will destroy eggs and help the bed bugs extermination process. Maximum efforts in the cleaning process now, will bring maximum results in the long run.
Instructions, on how to kill bed bugs using the product that you have purchased, should be followed very carefully, both for safety reasons, and to stand the most chance of successful treatment.
After using the bed bugs spray ensure that you allow the specified drying time to elapse, so as not to lessen its effectiveness.
